Creativity & Rebirth: Scorpio Full Moon Yoga Nidra for the Sacral Chakra [Washington DC]

  • Latela Gallery 716 Monroe Street Northeast Washington, DC, 20017 United States (map)

If you've been feeling emotionally unbalanced, experiencing guilt and self-judgement, desiring to reconnect to your creativity and purpose, wanting more play and pleasure in your life, or just need a way to deeply relax and do some self-care, this class is for you!

Full moons are an opportunity for completion, harvest, inquiry, and release. They shine a light on what has come to fruition since their corresponding new moon six months prior.  A full moon illuminates our "shadow side," allowing us to see our habits, mental patterns, addictive patterns, relationships, and other elements that can be shed to support our soul's continued growth.

We are not meant to stay the same.  We are meant to be reborn again and again in this lifetime.

Creativity is our birthright.

April's Full Moon in Scorpio occuring on April 29-30 is a powerful, magical invitation to submerge deeply into the emotional, creative, and intuitive territory of Scorpio's still waters. To revisit and rediscover our passions and purpose with curiosity. Scorpio correlates with rebirth and the pelvis, the area of the body associated with the second chakra or sacral chakra. The sacral, Svadisthana chakra governs the emotions, needs and desires, duality, creativity, finances, relationships, sexuality, pleasure, and change. Here are lessons related to sexuality, work, and physical desire. It is about how in duality we can make a choice. How we learn and grow through contraction and expansion, letting go and movement forward.

Also associate with this full moon is Kali, the Hindu Goddess of change, destruction, and time. She is the Mother of the whole Universe and considered the most powerful deity.  Sometimes she gets a bad rep - which is yet another example of how feared our creative energies can be when misunderstood, abused, and colonized. KaliMa is the image of the Feminine, the Maternal - representative of how life and birth require death and destruction, a most natural cycle. How perfect, and generous, that she is here for us to offer up to her our messy, shadow parts for holding and release before the coming New Moon in Taurus.

This workshop includes the following:

1 - A discussion on the astrology, tarot, chakra, and the energetic elements associated with this Full Moon

2 - A pranayama and asana practice to engage Kali energy, and open the pelvis and hips to prepare for yoga nidra

3 - A Yoga Nidra practice that focuses on the Sacral chakra, energizing the spirit, and weeding out that which no longer serves from the subconscious and unconscious mind

4 - A group full moon intention-setting ritual and set of journaling prompts channelled to realign the sacral chakra energy and to guide you to divine your own personal ritual

Consider this Full Moon an opportunity to release any blocks to fully engaging your creative channel and reconnect with your purpose and passion.  It's time to get out of old habits, reconnect with universal energetic flow, and create from your highest self.

WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?

Yoga Nidra, derived from an ancient Tantra yoga practice, is a simple and efficient way to deeply relax while remaining conscious to reduce anxiety, stress, and insomnia. It is a kind of mediation performed lying down in savasana and is suitable for all ages and abilities. During the practice, we sink into the parasympathetic nervous system and enter the hypnogogic state, the state between being awake and being asleep. When we stay in this place for 20 minutes it is the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep.

The Yoga Nidra process is a voice-guided meditation that includes a body focusing exercise that creates a circuit of energy in the motor cortext to relax the brain, some breath and sound awareness practices, and some visualization activities.

SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF YOGA NIDRA:
1. Improve focus, clarity, creativity, and productivity
2. Deeply relax to reduce physical, psychological, and emotional tension
3. "Weed the garden" by release stored memories and traumas from your subconscious
4. Recover from injury, surgery, jet lag, or too many late nights
