Inner Child Healing: Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nidra

When we feel grounded, centered, and secure, we are able to take risks that grow our life experience. We are comfortable with experiencing our creativity, sexuality, and play. We can relax into presence, and are comfortable being alone as much as with others. We can trust ourselves to take good care of ourselves, make positive self choices, and listen to our feelings and intuition. Even in the best of childhoods, few of us learned what it looks like to take good care of ourselves and how to make ourselves happy. 

Using the lenses of Margaret Paul's "Inner Bonding," and Richard Schwartz's "Internal Family Systems (IFS)," we will learn and experience techniques to connect and dialog with our Inner Child. We will discuss the experience of trauma in the nervous system as it relates to "parts work" in IFS, and the spiritual tradition of "calling back" the soul fragments that occur during traumatic events.

We will also experience trauma-informed breathwork, gentle movement, journaling, and a special Yoga Nidra practice designed to connect and facilitate healing with your inner little one. This workshop is designed with love and honor for wherever you are in your process.

You do not have to identify as a trauma-survivor to benefit, however, special attention will be given to discussion of trauma, PTSD, and C-PTSD.

Capricorn helps us set our minds on a goal, and have the willpower, grit, and tenacity to reach the finish line. And yet, Capricorn's earth sign energy can become so fixated on the goal that the pleasure of the journey, and the gifts of the present moment, can be overlooked.

To find balance with this, we work with the energy of Anja, the "Third Eye" or 6th Chakra. The six chakra is about our ability to Perceive in the mind's eye and to Command the body to action. We are here to heal - ourselves, and our ancestral, karmic lineage - for our futures right here and now, and for the greater good of our planet and future generations. At a spiritual level, trauma can be understood as part of the soul-level contracts we made before incarnation; it is through the toughest of weather that the core wood of the tree grows strongest. But first, we must learn how to take care of ourselves, and hold space for those parts of us ready to release and transmute pain into medicine.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient Tantra Yoga meditation technique designed to deeply relax the body, and enter the hypnogogic state, the state between being awake and being asleep. In this state the body engages the parasympathetic nervous system to deeply relax, allowing emotional and energetic blocks from the subconscious and unconscious mind to arise and clear. The practice is performed lying down (or can be seated), and is suitable for all physical conditions.

This workshop is designed with love and respect for wherever you are in your process. In the workshop we will combine Yoga Nidra with trauma-informed breathwork and gentle movement, discussion, and journaling.

Rest & Restore: A Yoga Nidra Experience

Between the holidays, travel, and end of Q4, we can experience a lot of anxiety, stress, and insomnia, and have difficulty connecting to ourselves to truly enjoy the blessings and symbolic nature of this time of year.

We begin our experience with some aromatherapy, light breathing exercises (pranayama), and a gentle, restorative yoga series to connect to and open the body in preparation for Yoga Nidra. During the practice, the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest / digest” phase, opposite of “fight / flight") is activated, and we enter the hypnogogic state between being awake and being asleep. When we stay in this place for 20 minutes it is the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep. We seal the experience with a sankalpa (intention-setting) practice to close the session, carrying the message our heart and soul reveals to us after quieting the mind.
